Walking the Hall (Part 1)
Digital Video Exercise

Follow the steps listed below to gather video for you first class project. You will work in crews of three as assigned by your teacher.

Complete the Shots Quiz. Place the completed quiz on the teacher’s desk. If you have answered all of the questions correctly, the teacher will ask you to write your crew number on the production call sheet.

After your whole crew is on the call sheet, choose 1 person to check out a digital video camera.

Follow the instructions for signing out a camera.

When it is your crew’s turn to shoot, take your group out into the hallway to film your scenes.

Notes: You will have 6 minutes to complete your scenes, so get to it immediately. Each crew member will take a turn as camera operator, director, and actor. Each director will responsible for recording the scene following these steps:

1) Direct the camera operator where to stand, what angle to use, and if the camera will need to move.

2) Direct the actor where to stand and what to do. Your will instruct your actor to walk CAREFULLY down the hall. No running, and no horseplay. You MUST NOT disturb the other classes in the hall.

3) Verify that the camera is on and recording.

4) Step in front of the camera and “Slate” by saying the following:
  1. Your name
  2. “Walking the Hall”
  3. “Take 1”

5) Start the scene by saying, “Action”.

6) Say “Cut” when the scene is completed.

7) Tell the camera operator to stop recording.
